A. Seth Johnston

A. Seth Johnston, 82, of Monroe, died Sunday, April 24, 2011, at Atrium Medical Center. He was born in Dayton on July 8, 1928 to parents Raymond Lemoyne and Katherine E. (Seth) Johnston.

Seth earned his Bachelor's degree from Oberlin College and Master's degree from The Ohio State University. He was named an accredited farm manager and an accredited rural appraiser. He worked as a fieldman for Opekasit Inc until 1960 then was president and owner of Agricultural Land Consultants, Inc. He was a member of Monroe Village Council, served as mayor from 1974 - 1986 then became manager of the City of Monroe in 1987, serving until 1998. He was past president of Ohio Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers, served on the Butler County Planning Commission, was a member of and served in various capacities with the following organizations, the American Red Cross, Monroe Lions Club, YMCA, First Presbyterian Church in Middletown and Ohio Presbyterian Retirement Services.

Mr. Johnston is survived by his sons, Thomas (Janis) Johnston and James (Kristen) Johnston; daughter, Jennifer (S. Joseph Arriaga) Johnston; sister, Katherine J. (J. Roger) Lyons; 15 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce Johnston; parents; and daughter, Lori Hamlin.

Memorial service will be held Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 1:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church, 2910 Central Ave., Middletown with Reverend L. Timothy Doty officiating. The family will hold private interment at Mound Cemetery.
