Frances Agatha Evers, 90, of Middletown, died Tuesday, October 25, 2005, at Garden Manor Extended Care Service. She had been in failing health for the last few years. She was born in Middletown, on April 18, 1915, the daughter of Francis and Mary (Behrens) Evers.
She was not only a life long member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, but had been a vocal soloist, choir member and director of both the youth and adult choirs. She also was a member and officer of numerous church committees.
Agatha’s music education began under Florence Wenzel, a well known singer and teacher. Subsequently she received a diploma from the Proctor School of Music, under Edward Molitore and graduated from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music under Milan Petrovic, both renowned music teachers.
Miss Evers involvement through music and services to the community are noteworthy. She has performed vocal solos with the Middletown Civic Chorus, the Middletown Symphony Orchestra, and the Liturgical Lutheran Choir of Cincinnati. She received from the Ohio Federation of Music Clubs, recognition for 25 years of consecutive service as a choir director and for 50 years of service in church music. In 1997, the Middletown Music Club honored Agatha for 60 years of active membership. She held every office, was a member of many committees and a vocalist on numerous occasions. She also taught private voice lessons and served on a panel of judges for the Louis John Johnan vocal auditions 14 times.
Miss Evers was also employed full time at Armco Steel Corporation. In 1969 she celebrated her 35th anniversary. Her final position, from which she retired in 1979, was head of administration services of Armco International Department. She was a member of the Middletown Historical Society, serving on its board for many years, and was a recipient of the Middletown Historical Society Historian of the Year award.
Agatha is survived by a niece, M. Joan Popp of Sycamore, Illinois; and a cousin, Charles Behrens of Lockland, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Mary Louisa Popp.
Funeral Service will be held Monday, October 31, 2005 at 11:00 AM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 212 S. Broad St., Middletown, with Reverend Gene Leiter officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10-11 AM at the church. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
