Aleene M. Wilkin, 83, of Middletown, died on October 29, 2004, at her residence. Born January 28, 1921 in Vian, Oklahoma, Meredith Aleene Miller graduated from high school in Dardannelle, Arkansas in 1939 and married Lt. James S. Wilkin, Jr. in 1943 at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri.
She is survived by her son, James S. Wilkin and his wife Megan McLaughlin of Oakland, California; a daughter, Kathryn Wood of Middletown, Ohio; a brother, Howard Miller of Memphis, Tennessee; a sister, Margaret “Peg” Beasley of Little rock, Arkansas and a grandson, Merrell Wood of Middletown. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marshall and Nell (Spain) Miller, husband Col. James S. Wilkin, Jr., a brother, Marshall “Sonny” Miller and a nephew, Jerry Miller.
The wife of an army officer, she packed and moved her family 14 times in 21 years, including tours in Germany, Japan and Taiwan. She moved to Middletown from Falls Church, Virginia in 1992 to be close to her daughter and grandson. She loved the Middletown community, especially the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, the arts and the friendliness of the people. She was a gourmet cook, enjoyed interior and fashion design, her gardens and most importantly she loved creating festive gatherings for her family and friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 6, 2004 at 11:00 AM at the Church Of the Ascension with Reverend Walter Mycoff and Rev. Clyde Martin officiating. Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery. Arrangements are by WILSON-SCHRAMM-SPAULDING Funeral Home.
