Alvina McQuitty, 89, of Middletown, Ohio, died on December 10, 2004, at Garden Manor Retirement Village. She was born in Middletown on April 20, 1915 to parents Bernard and Elizabeth (Reuter) Frye.
Mrs. McQuitty was a life long member of the Bethlehem Luthern Church. She worked at the P. Lorillard Co. A homemaker, she was always interested in sewing and crafts. Working for Jones Drapery & Upholstery Shop, she started making drapes and doing alterations from her home. She opened the Montgomery Ward Alteration Department and it closed when she retired. Alvina was an active member of AARP and taught crafts at the Senior Citizens Center and also held craft classes in her home until her eyesight failed.
Alvina was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy McQuitty, who was a coxswain of the U.S.S. Indianapolis when it was sunk at the end of World War II; her daughter, Sharon Elaine McQuitty Back and granddaughter, Tamara Elaine Back, who were killed in an auto accident in 1970; and brothers, Fred Frye and William Leroy Frye.
She is survived by a sister, Dorothy Saunders; two brothers, Bernard “Pete” Frye and Ronald Frye; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held Monday, December 13, 2004 at 12:00 PM at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home with Reverend Gene Leiter officiating. Visitation will be Monday, December 13, 2004 from 11-12:00 pm at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown, OH. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 212 S. Broad St., Middletown, OH 45044.
