Andrew “Andy” J. Sabo, 92, of Middletown died Saturday August 11, 2007 at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born November 10, 1914 in Middletown to parents John and Rose (Hazacha) Sabo.
He was an avid golfer with numerous holes in one. He started to caddy at age 14 and was a Caddy Master for the Verity’s at Forest Hills. Andy was a past President of the Franklin Golf Course and he worked at Shaker Run Golf Course. At the beginning of WWII he worked for aircraft factories in Dallas and Phoenix, helping to build B-24 Liberators and P-51 Mustangs. He returned to Middletown after the war and worked at Armco as a field rigger leader until retirement in 1977 after 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lora Sabo in 1990, an infant daughter Charlotte, his parents, brothers John, Steve, Joe, Bundy and Mickey Sabo, sisters Rose Brest, and Mary Graham.
Andy is survived by a son Andy J. (Joan) Sabo Jr. of Middletown, 4 grandchildren; Sherry Woolum, Lynne (Michael) McCann, Michael (Linda) Sabo, and Jeffrey Sabo, 6 great-grandchildren; Daniel, Brenna, and Kyle Woolum, Matthew Sabo, Victoria and Nicholas Sabo, and a sister Margaret Lickert.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday August 14, 2007 at 10:30 AM at Holy Family Parish, St. John’s Church with Fr. John Civille as Celebrant. Visitation will be Tuesday August 14, 2007 from 9:00 – 10:00AM at WILSON SCHRAMM SPAULDING Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. (at Bonita Dr.). Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, PO BOX 643270 Cincinnati, OH 45264-3270.
