Shumate, Arthur P.
Arthur P. Shumate, 90, of Monroe, died Wednesday, November 19, 2014, at Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village. He was born in Middletown, Ohio on October 22, 1924 to parents Edward and Ethel (Long) Shumate.
Arthur was customer service supervisor in the metal products division at AK Steel for 30 years. He was a graduate of the University of Dayton where he later taught communication classes. Arthur served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. He later received the Chevalier Legion of Honor Medal from the French Republic in gratitude for his heroism during the D-Day invasion of Normandy.
Mr. Shumate is survived by his brothers, William(Virginia) Shumate, Richard Shumate; sisters, Winifred (James) McPherson, Dorothy (Donald) Cole and Mary (Jack) Villapondo. Art was a beloved uncle to three generations of nieces and nephews. Although he had no children of his own, he loved them all as would a father.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Edward Shumate Jr., Jack Shumate, and James Shumate and sister, Jean Shumate.
At Art's request, there will be no services or visitation.
