Blanche C. Turner, 92, of Middletown, Ohio, died on October 7, 2004, at Garden Manor Retirement Village. She was born September 24, 1912 in Liberty Township, the 10th of 12 children born to John & Julia (Barrett) Carr. She quit high school to stay at home and care for her younger brothers, Clyde & Conner.

She married Pleas Turner September 8, 1933 in Covington, Kentucky. When Pleas was sent to Texas with the military, she went with him and worked in a laundry & lived in a boarding house. At the time Pleas was sent overseas in World War II, she then came back to Middletown to wait for him. When Blance returned from Texas, she worked at Miami Carey and later many stores in downtown Middletown - Spencer´s Jewelry, JC Penny, Merit Shoe Store, and also at the old Central Pastry when it was owned by the Furlows.

Blanche and Pleas were members of Grace Baptist Church for many years. Pleas took a medical retirement from ARMCO Steel and he died of his heart problems in 1971. For many years, Blanche enjoyed cards, Bingo, and traveling. She had no children of her own, but helped raise her niece, Connie.

Mrs. Turner is survived by her niece, Connie (Larry) Parrella of Middletown, OH; their children, Beth & David Gaston of Middletown; a nephew, Butch (Kela) Parrella of Goshen, KY; and their children; great great nieces & nephews, Kyle, Ryan, & Caroline Gaston of Middletown and Lindsay & Larry III Parrella of Goshen, KY. She is also survived by nephew Danny (Rosie) Turner of Carlisle, as well as many other nieces and nephews in Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, Idaho, and California.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Pleas Turner; her parents; and 11 brothers and sisters.

Blanche had an extended family which was her Garden Manor care givers. Connie wants to give a special thanks to Garden Manor and especially to Blanche’s friend “Betsy” who took such good care of her. Also thanks to Doris, J.R., Marsha, Andy, Tracy, Emily, and so many more. Thanks to you all for going beyond your job responsibility. Your concern, care, and visible and vocal love was noticed by all.

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, October 9, 2004 at 10:30 AM at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. at Bonita Dr., with Reverend Greg Carr officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, prior to the service from 9:30 - 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
