Bradford T. Scott

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Bradford “Brad” Thomas Scott on December 22, 2018. Brad’s remains will be spread in the places he loved most. Brad will live on in our memories as a funny, creative, gentle, lover of music and nature. Brad was born in Bad Kreuznach, Germany on September 7, 1961 to Tom and Bonnie Scott. He was raised in Cincinnati and Middletown, Ohio before setting off on a life of adventure.

Never one to conform to societal expectations, Brad travelled with the Grateful Dead, worked on a farm in the arctic circle, and worked as an observer for NOAA on fishing boats in Alaska and off of the coast of Japan.

In the early 90’s, Brad moved to the north shore of Kauai living on the beach and helping to rebuild homes after Iniki. He loved children and taught at the local school. He got his scuba diving certification and participated in research for the University of Hawaii in Hanalei Bay. Always one with the gift for gab, he also worked for a tourist business hosting trips on the Na Pa Li coast. Brad loved the island and its people and made it his home for the rest of his life.

In 1994 Brad was in a cycling accident that resulted in a spinal cord injury. His mother moved to Oahu to be with him during his rehab at Queen’s Rehab hospital of the Pacific.

Brad is survived by his devoted and loving family and friends: his father, Tom Scott of Middletown, Ohio, sister Kim Scott and her fiancé Fletcher Andrews, sister Gwen Scott, niece Sophia Thomas and brother in spirit, Bryce Thomas all of Seattle, Washington. He was preceded in death by his forever committed mother, Bonnie Scott of Middletown, Ohio. Family friends Marge and Bill Wooley, Julie Thomas, Mary Deas and Tom Wostley, Mike Stautberg. The above friends all visited Brad in Kauai at various times. Their visits were appreciated by Brad and his family. “Fare you well, fare you well, I love you more than words can tell, Listen to the river sing sweet songs, to rock my soul”.
