Bruce L. Peters Sr.

Bruce L. Peters, Sr., 93, of Monroe, died Thursday, January 31, 2008, at Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village. He was born in Tipp City, Ohio, on July 6, 1914, to parents Cornelius and Nancy (Karns) Peters.

Mr. Peters was a member of First Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. Bruce was graduated from the School of Dayton Art Institute with honors, including 3 painting scholarships. While still in art school, he was selected for hanging in the Cincinnati Art Museum's Annual Juried National Exhibition of American Art in 1935, 1936, and 1939. He was a charter member and past president of the Art Center of Dayton and Arts In Middletown. He was a member of the Ohio Watercolor Society, where he formerly served on the Board of Trustees, member of Western Ohio Watercolor Society, Dayton Society Painters and Sculptors and associate member of the American Watercolor Society. His works are represented in over 130 private businesses and museum collections. He retired from Armco General Management as Director of Advertising and Creative Services in 1979. He has had acceptance in over 58 multi-state watercolor competitions, acquiring 41 awards, as well as having 4 one-man shows. Two of his paintings are included in the watercolor book "Exploring Color", now in its third printing. During the last 30 years he has contributed over 100 paintings to the Middletown Fine Arts Center's Annual Art Auctions. He enjoyed traveling for new painting inspiration, visiting museums, sailing, doing photography, yard work, and was an aviation and space enthusiast.

Mr. Peters is survived by three sons, Bruce L. (Glenda) Peters Jr., Michael L. (Janice) Peters, and Timothy W. Peters; 5 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy J. "Dottie" Peters in 1988; his parents; brother, Jim Peters; and sister, Miriam Bunyan.

Memorial Service will be held Monday, February 4, 2008 at 4:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church, 2910 Central Ave., Middletown, with Reverend L. Timothy Doty officiating. The family will receive friends at the church, following the service.
