Byron L. Mays

Byron L. "Sonny" Mays, 81, of Madison Township, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at Ohio's Hospice of Dayton. He was born in Middletown on November 27, 1942 to parents, Troy and Viola (Lovely) Mays.

Sonny worked for General Motors for 30 years, retiring as a Group Leader in 1992. He enjoyed working on old cars in his spare time and completely rebuilt a '55 Chevy. He served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam at White Sands Missile Range as an MP. Sonny enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was always up for a game of cards.

Sonny is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Faye (Hackney) Mays; daughter, Barb (Rick) Rohrig; sister, Joann (Kenny) Carder; sister-in-law, Carol Mays; and grandson, Tyler Bradley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Christine Pierce-Watts & Betty Sue Wright; and brother, Seldon Mays.

Funeral Service will be Friday, March 29, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd (at Bonita Dr.), Middletown with Pastor Jim Winters officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Grace Memorial Gardens with military honors conducted by the Middletown Combined Honor Guard.
