Carolyn H. Smith, 94, of Middletown, died on July 13, 2004, at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born in Crystal City, Missouri on June 9, 1910 to parents Merle and Frances (Crouch) Hayes.

Mrs. Smith worked as a secretary for Armco Steel Corporation for 20 years, retiring in 1948, and was a member of the Armco Girls Association. She was an active member of Oakland Presbyterian Church, which became St. Luke United Presbyterian Church. She was very gifted in crafts and needlepoint and enjoyed playing golf.

Carolyn is survived by her husband of 67 years, Deener Smith of Middletown; five nieces, Barbara (Ed) Nunemaker of Gahanna, OH, Linda (Bill) Martins of Hamilton, IN, Beverly Currier of Middletown, OH, Jean Hayes of Middletown, OH, and Libby (Troy) Paskell of Columbus, OH; one nephew, Greg Smith of Middletown, OH; and many great nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Robert Hayes and Richard Hayes; a niece, Ellen Thurman; and a nephew, Rick Hayes.

Private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family, with Pastor Janet Dillaman officiating. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
