Carolyn R. Abner

Carolyn R. (Taylor) Abner, 69, of Middletown, died Tuesday, November 4, 2008, at her residence. She was born in Middletown, on March 21, 1939, to parents Howard and Madge (Colwell) Taylor.

Carolyn worked for Middletown Board of Education, at Vail Middle School, as a bus driver and custodian for 28 years, retiring in 1996. She also worked at Southwestern College of Business, Meijer and United Baptist Church as a custodian. She had been an avid bowler and won several trophies. Carolyn dedicated her time to the Lord. She co-founded Women In Need Ministries in 1990 and was later ordained as a pastor. In 1996, when they were blessed with their own building, she became co-pastor of the Christian Community Outreach Church. She ministered at Hope House, Marysville Prison for Women and the Middletown and Butler County jails every week for the past 15 years. She had been a guest speaker at the Women's Aglow Lighthouse Chapters in several states.

She is survived by her daughter, Julie Prater Corley; son, James L. Abner Jr.; sister, Dorothy Nemcic; two grandchildren, Jason L. Prater and Kala S. Corley; and best friend, Sue Urmston.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, James L. Abner Sr.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Malcolm and the staff of Hospice Care of Middletown, especially her nurse, Melissa.

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, November 8, 2008 at 11:00 am at WILSON-SCHRAMM-SPAULDING FUNERAL HOME, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown with Pastor Mark Granger officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9:00 - 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
