Colleen Johnson, 65, of Monroe, died Thursday, April 28, 2016, at Hospice of Butler & Warren Counties. She was born in Letcher County, Kentucky on May 23, 1950.
Colleen was an accomplished business woman, owning many different businesses over the years. In addition to that she held a degree from Miami University in Sociology. She was the owner of Hello Gorgeous Salon for many years. After retiring, she taught cosmetology at a local Beauty College in Middletown. Besides a state license in cosmetology, Colleen held a national license in Phlebotomy as well as a license in Electrocardiography, where she worked shortly at Fort Hamilton Hughes Hospital. She refused to give in to complete retirement and later worked part-time at the Monroe Outlet Mall. Colleen was high spirited and always had a smile for everyone. She loved socializing and volunteering. She belonged to the Red Hat Society and was a past officer at the Middletown Moose Lodge. However her greatest source of joy was her two grandchildren, Blaine and Darius III Fugate.
She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband, Roy Johnson; son, Darius Jr. (Lori) Fugate; brothers, Bobby Cantrell & Wade (Sharon) Cantrell; grandchildren, Darius III & Blaine Fugate; as well as a host of nieces & nephews too many to name and some close & devoted friends.
Colleen was preceded in death by her son, Chad Fugate; parents; sister, Beverly Cantrell Sponcel; and brothers, Howard Cantrell, Frank Cantrell & Clayton Cantrell.
The family would like to acknowledge with grateful hearts all the kindness you have shown us during our time of bereavement. We have sustained a great loss and your kindness & prayers have been most comforting to us. We are deeply moved & thankful for your concerns, your love, & your sharing of our grief.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 12:00 noon at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown with Pastor Valerie McCann officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:30 am - 12:00 pm. Inurnment will be at Mound Cemetery.
