Cornelius Bowman, 88, of Middletown, died Wednesday, February 3, 2010, at his residence. He was born in Powell County, Kentucky on January 10, 1922 to parents Edd and Addie Lee (Hall) Bowman.
Cornelius worked as a zinc strip operator for Armco Steel Corporation for 31 years, retiring in 1983. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, knives and whittling and he loved to tell stories.
Mr. Bowman is survived by his wife of 64 years, Eureka "Peggy" (Woods) Bowman; three sons, Buford A. (Deana) Bowman, David (Karin) Bowman and Billy Ray (Dawn) Bowman; seven daughters, Edna (Mark) Repyneck, Rosa (Kenny) Smith, Rita Ratliff, Sharon Cate, Stephanie (Morris) Thompson, Faye Elkins and Patty Bowman; 18 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Lloyd Wayne Bowman; son-in-law, Raymond Ratliff; sister, Dolly Barnett; and nephew, Albert Elkins.
Funeral Service will be held Monday, February 8, 2010 at 10:00 am at WILSON-SCHRAMM-SPAULDING FUNERAL HOME, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown with Pastor Vince Williams officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 - 4:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Middletown Combined Honor Guard.
