Courtney Charles Duff, Jr.

May 1, 1935 — September 4, 2017

Courtney Charles Duff, Jr., 82, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 4, in Middletown, Ohio after a brief battle with an aggressive lung disease.

Courtney, born May 1, 1935, to Courtney, Sr. and Carrie Duff, was a life-long Middletown resident who loved his God, his family and his community. He graduated from Middletown High School and was inducted into the school’s hall of fame.

An entrepreneur, visionary and community leader, Courtney was President and CEO of Courtney Duff Companies where, over his 60 year career, he built and sold thousands of residential and commercial properties. Countless families and businesses benefited from his guidance in every aspect of real estate—from land development and design to building or listing a residence or commercial property for selling. He employed hundreds of subcontractors and partnered with numerous real estate agents. In 1995, he was honored as Realtor of the Year.

Devoted to God and His Word, Courtney was a lay leader at Breiel Boulevard Church of God in Middletown. His Godly approach to life was reflected in everything he did. As a businessman of integrity and strong moral conviction, Courtney endeavored to do the right thing in every circumstance—from helping people in their time of need to leading his fellow businessmen in a weekly prayer meeting.

Courtney had many interests, boundless energy and most of all a big heart. He loved cars; listening to his wife Mary Lee and daughter Tina sing; partnering with his daughter Tammy on rehabbing houses; making homemade ice cream; hosting gatherings for family and friends; spending months constructing his elaborate trainset and Christmas Dickens Village displays and seeing the smiles of his grandchildren.

He was the loving husband of Mary Lee Duff, and was preceded in death by wife Vada Duff, in 1992. He was a loving father to Tammy Miller of Middletown and Tina Castle (Ron) of Hilliard, OH, and a father to Mary Lee’s sons David Huff (Gigi) of Scottsdale, AZ, and Bobby Huff (Lana) of Gallatin, TN. He was a loving brother to Loretta Dolly Smith (Doug) of Edmond, OK, and Joan Martin (Jack) of Monroe, OH. His grandchildren, who meant the world to him, include Andrew Miller (Lauren) of Imperial, PA, Ethan Miller (Aneliia) of Jacksonville, FL; Joshua, Ariana, Alysia and Josiah Castle of Hillard, OH; Mitchel Hubert (Christa) of Nashville, TN, Michael Hubert of Portland, OR, Robbie Huff of Pontotoc, MS, Ed Sawyer of Nashville, TN and Braedon and Mia Huff of Scottsdale, AZ. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews as well as numerous friends.

Friends are invited to visit with the family on Friday, Sept 8, 2017 from 3:00 – 5:00 pm and from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Breiel Boulevard Church of God, 2000 N Breiel Blvd, Middletown, OH 45042.
