Gerald David Gentry, 69, of Middletown, passed away Monday, February 5, 2018, at Avalon by Otterbein at Atrium after a brave and valiant battle with his illness. He was born in Middletown on February 2, 1949 to parents Ernest and Opal (Powell) Gentry.
Mr. Gentry is survived by his daughters, Lorie (Dino North) Gentry, Amber (Chad) Copenhaver & Christina (Bobby) Fink; sons, Joshua (Leah Seabright) Gentry & Clint (Starr) Gentry; sisters, Kathy Habig & Zella Mae (Paul) Schapker; grandchildren, Jessica (Beniah) Gentry-Larison, Jarod Gentry, Brodie Copenhaver, Kailey Copenhaver, Matthew Fink, Ellie Fink, Andrew (Jessica Bush) Gentry, Aaron (Myah Venters) Gentry, Alex Gentry, Britney Braun & Kaden Gentry; David became a great grandfather this past week to two great granddaughters, Aubree Gentry & Ember Gentry; and numerous nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Paul Stephen Habig.
In his working career, David was a Steam Engineer at Boiler House No. 3 at AK Steel Middletown, until his retirement. He then resumed his career with the same job description and title at Delphi Moraine until his illness forced his retirement. David enjoyed his family and had a group of special friends with whom he shared his love of companionship and travel.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to everyone at Otterbein Middletown who provided friendship and excellent care; Hospice Care of Middletown for their amazing and exceptional help to David and his family; and to Scott Habig and Heidi Palmer for their assistance during David’s illness.
Funeral Service will be held Friday, February 9, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 12:00 - 1:00 pm. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
