David P. Dirksen, 83, of Monroe, died Friday, August 1, 2014, at Hospice of Butler & Warren Counties. He was born in Rochester, New York on July 18, 1931 to parents Phillip J. and Anne L. (Charles) Dirksen. He was a loving husband, father & grandfather who enjoyed being outdoors boating, fishing and working in his garden. He was also an enthusiastic Miami University hockey fan.
Mr. Dirksen graduated from Cornell University in 1953 with a BS in Agricultural Engineering and later received his MS in 1958. He was in the Army ROTC at Cornell and after graduation served his country in the United States Army as a First Lieutenant. He was employed by both Armco Steel and Ellis & Watts as an information systems manager. He was also a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon.
Mr. Dirksen is survived by his wife, Joanne (Furry) Dirksen; daughter, Debbie (Paul) Heck; sons, David M. (Mary Beth) Dirksen and Stephen (Tina) Dirksen; grandchildren, Morgan Heck, Lauren Heck, Benjamin Dirksen, Katie Dirksen, Drew Dirksen and Kacey Dirksen; brother-in-law, Ron (Anne) Furry; nieces & nephews, Bill and Bob Dirksen, Linda (Dirksen) Gressell, Sue Irish, Ken Furry and Donna Tongue; and numerous friends & family.
David was preceded in death by his parents; infant twin sons; and brother, William R. Dirksen.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. He will be laid to rest at the North Monroe Cemetery.
