Decoursey "Al" Spicer

Decoursey "Al" Spicer, 89, of Ft. Collins, Colorado, died Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at his home. He was born in Altro, Kentucky on June 12, 1923 to parents John and Lula (Combs) Spicer.

Mr. Spicer was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He spent 15 months as one of the troops guarding the Hawaiian Islands immediately following the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He also served in Europe during World War II in Germany, France, & Austria. While in Austria, he assisted in the liberation of two concentration camps. His last assignment was as a ski trooper in the territory of Alaska. Mr. Spicer was a tinsmith by trade and worked 17 years for The Brown Singer Metal Company of Monroe, Ohio and 19 years for General Motors at their Delco Moraine plant in Dayton, Ohio. Following his retirement from G.M., he worked 5 years as a mail courier for First Financial Bank. Mr. Spicer was also an ordained minister, preaching many years for the Church of God (Cleveland, Tennessee), the Assemblies of God, and throughout the Miami Valley at various Pentecostal churches. Mr. Spicer was known for his keen memory, poetry, and all the interesting stories of his life experiences.

Mr. Spicer is survived by his daughters, Alvera (George) Chaney & Parma (David) Mann; grandchildren, Matthew (Usha) Reifsnider, David Reifsnider, Vickie Reifsnider, & Ronnea Bledsoe; step grandchildren, Mark (Heather) Mann, & Laurie (Nick) Camilleri; great grandchildren, Joe, Brooke, & Brittany Trail, Ronnie & Sunny Pearce, & Jackson & Lindsey Link; step great grandchildren, Allison, Samuel, & Abigail Mann, Zachary & Alexander Camilleri, & Cole & Lauren Hayes; sister, Lola Turner; brothers, Leland (Marie) Spicer, Arnold Spicer, & Bob (Nancy) Spicer; numerous nieces & nephews whose company he enjoyed & loved. He is also survived by a wife, Jewell Blanton Spicer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Stella; sisters, Mattie Deaton, Atha Polly, & Mildred McIntosh; brothers, Raymond, Clint, Troy, & Lloyd Spicer; and great grandson, Kyle Pearce.

Funeral Service will be held Friday, December 28, 2012 at 10:00 am at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown with Reverend Matthew Reifsnider officiating. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 at the funeral home. Interment will be at Butler County Memorial Park with military honors conducted by the Middletown Combined Honor Guard.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of donor's choice.
