Deener Smith, 94, of Middletown, died Saturday, January 8, 2005, at Garden Manor Retirement Village. He was born in Paulding, Ohio on March 23, 1910 to parents Harry A. and Lillian (Keller) Smith.
Mr. Smith worked as an industrial engineer for Armco Steel Corp until retirement in 1972. After retirement, he worked in the pro-shop at Shaker Run Golf Course. Deener was a World War II veteran and was an active member of Oakland Presbyterian Church, which became St. Luke United Presbyterian Church.
Deener is survived by five nieces, Barbara (Ed) Nunamaker of Gahanna, Linda (Bill) Martins of Hamilton, IN, Beverly Currier, Jean Hayes both of Middletown, and Elizabeth (Troy) Paskell of Columbus; a nephew, Greg Smith of Middletown; as well as many great & great great nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Carolyn H. Smith in July 2004; his parents; a brother, Eugene Smith; a sister, Marcia Graff; a niece, Ellen Thurman; and a nephew, Richard Hayes.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday, January 15, 2005 at 2:00 PM at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. at Bonita Dr., with Pastor Janet Dillaman officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, prior to the service from 1-2 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of donor´s choice.
