Donald L. Phillips, 89, of Franklin Township, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at Hospice of Butler & Warren Counties. He was born in Clay City, Kentucky on February 27, 1922 to parents Bunyon and Nannie (Conlee) Phillips.
Don worked for General Motors for 42 years, retiring in 1984 and then spending winters in Florida. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy, serving in the South Pacific. His greatest honor, privilege & thrill was when he met & received the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior on October 6, 1960. He was a member, Bible teacher & head of the boy's basketball team for 24 years at Grace Baptist Church and also had a Bible teaching ministry for 28 years at Lebanon Correctional Institution. He was recognized as volunteer of the year in 1992 by Governor George Voinovich. His favorite book was the King James 1611 AV Bible, which he studied many hours, writing topics & commentaries and helping others in understanding God's word. His hobbies were fishing, genealogy & traveling.
Mr. Phillips is survived by his 2nd wife, Lois I. Phillips. His sons, Ronald L. Phillips & Timothy J. (Judy) Phillips. His daughter, Jeanna M. (Gary) Bauer. Grandchildren, Timothy Phillips Jr. & Jason Phillips. Sydney & Madison Bauer. Four great grandchildren and many nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mabel Powers, Edna Davidson, Kate Smith, Dicki Curtis & Marie Smith; brother, Garrett Phillips; and son, David "Mike" Phillips.
Funeral Service will be held Friday, November 4, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Grace Baptist Church, 3023 N. Union Rd., Middletown with Reverend Dave Drury & Reverend Dr. Roger Green officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 12:00 - 2:00 pm at the church. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery with military services conducted by the Middletown Combined Honor Guard.
