Donald L. Stibbs, 91, of Middletown, died Tuesday, December 25, 2018, at Atrium Medical Center. He was born in Dayton on May 10, 1927 to parents Carl and Reva (Whitacre) Stibbs.
Don had worked as a diesel mechanic at Armco Steel, where he was known as “Smiley”, for 30 years, retiring in 1984. His passion was working on trains, wishing to be a Locomotive Engineer at Armco. He served his country in the United States Army, running communication lines during the Korean Conflict. He soon fell in love with boating. He and Janet enjoyed cruising the Ohio River on their 42 Cabin Cruiser. He also loved horses. But Don’s greatest love was his family. He enjoyed taking his family on vacations out west. He didn’t have a big family of his own so he always considered his in-laws, the Murrays, his family.
Mr. Stibbs is survived by his sons, Stephen Stibbs & Jeffrey Stibbs; daughter, Sherri Powers; four grandchildren, Leah, Donna, Sherri A. & Travis; and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Janet A. Stibbs in 2016; parents; sister, Nancy Stibbs; and granddaughter, Wynona.
