Dorothy E. Parnell

Dorothy Escott Parnell, 95, of Mount Pleasant Retirement Village, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2016. She was born in College Park, Georgia on February 6, 1921 to parents James Earl and Lucille (Moore) Escott.

Dorothy attended the University of Georgia, Atlanta Division, and was employed as a secretary by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. She moved to Middletown, Ohio in 1961, when her husband, Bill K. Parnell, was transferred there by Armco Steel Corp. In Middletown she was a member of the First United Methodist Church and served on the Board of the League of Women Voters. In 1993 she and her husband moved to Mount Pleasant Retirement Village. She served as secretary of the Residents Association and Communication Committee, volunteered at the Quisno Wellness Center, and was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church. She enjoyed golf, bowling, gardening, reading, crossword puzzles and Sudoku, and especially walking.

Mrs. Parnell is survived by her husband of 75 years, Bill K. Parnell of Monroe; daughter, Peggy (Melvin Edward III) Parnell Drane of Biltmore Lake, NC; son, Dr. Philip C. Parnell of Bloomington, IN; granddaughter, Major Tracy Drane Provenzano of Jacksonville, FL; and two great grandsons, Paul Edward Provenzano of Ponte Vedra, FL and PO2 Christopher Kemp Provenzano of Yokosuka, Japan.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Elizabeth E. Thomas & Charlotte E. Beebe.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, April 22, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Mary H. Kittredge Chapel at Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village, 225 Britton Lane, Monroe with Reverend Joel Harbarger & Reverend Bill Phillips officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:00 pm.
