Edith B. Broyles, 92, formerly of Middletown, died Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at Cottingham Retirement Community Sharonville, where she had lived for the past 8 years. She was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey on November 22, 1920 to parents Norman and Caroline (Weller) Matlack.
Edith was a graduate of the Bethesda Hospital Nursing School and served her country in the United States Army Nurse Corps during World War II. She worked as a registered nurse and as an administrator at Middletown Regional Hospital for 33 years, retiring in 1980 and she volunteered at Wilson School for a number of years. She also volunteered at Cottingham Retirement Community and was a member of the chorus there. She was a member of H.A.R.E., and a life member of the American Legion Post 218 and the V.F.W.
Mrs. Broyles is survived by her niece, Elizabeth Anne (James) Stanley; nephew, David Matlack; and sister-in-law, Bertha Matlack.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Broyles in 1991; parents and brother, Edwin Matlack.
Funeral Service will be held Monday, June 10, 2013 at 11:00 am at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown with Pastor Betsy Williams officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 10:00 - 11:00 am. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Middletown Combined Honor Guard.
