Edward Gunderson, 72, died Monday, at his residence.
Ed played basketball while attending college at Miami University from 1950-1954. He played softball after college and in later years enjoyed playing golf. He is a member of the Butler County Sports Hall of Fame. He began his teaching career in 1959 in Clyde, OH, moved to Madison in 1960 where he taught, coached, and was athletic director, then was principal at Poasttown from 1968 - 1972. He was with Lakota School District from 1972 to 1981 during which time he was principal of Hopewell Junior High. Beginning in 1981 he was director of non-certified personnel and transportation until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of Butler County Retired Teachers Association, Ohio Retired Teachers Association, Middletown Area Senior Citizens and St. Luke United Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Gunderson is survived by his wife Gerry D. (Deaton) Gunderson ; son Greg (Julie) Gunderson; daughters Gina (Russ) Kimble and Greer (Troy) Edwards; brother Lindy (Ray) Gunderson; sisters Julia (Mike) Hocz, Ruth (Fred) Rau, Katy (Jim) Hollenbeck, Marilyn Frith, Shirley (Ken) Bracken, and Carolyn (Jack) Thomas; and grandchildren Courtney & Lindsay Abbott, T.J. Kimble, Brook Walter, and Andrew & Christopher Edwards.
He was preceded in death by his parents George E. Gunderson and Pearl (Moore) Gunderson Allen.
Rev. William Anderson will officiate the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial donations to be made to St. Luke United Presbyterian Church 4311 Walton Court, Middletown, OH 45042.
