Edward L. Cape, 89, of Monroe, died Friday, August 23, 2002 at Mt. Pleasant Retirement Center following an extended illness.
Mr. Cape was born January 8, 1913, in Rockport, Indiana to Sidney and Rose (Wetzel Cape. Employed by Armco Steel Corp (A.K.Steel) for 42 years, he retired in 1975 as a maintenance planner. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran having earned a bronze star, purple heart and numerous other battle decorations. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post #218. He also was an avid model train collector and formerly involved as a troop leader with the Boy Scouts of America.
Mr. Cape is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Robert E. and Barbara Cape of Powell, Ohio; a daughter and son-in-law, M. Diane and Thomas Molnar of Washington Crossing, PA., and five grandchildren, Christopher R. Cape, M. Ryan Cape, Cynthia D. Cape, Allison (Jamie) Iudica and Kerry Molnar. He also is survived by a sister, Mildred Burk of Madison Township; a sister-in-law, Irene Brillhart of Eaton; a niece Dr. Stephanie Burk and numerous nephews and nieces.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Martha (Coffman) Cape on Dec. 23, 1997; a brother Robert Cape and sister Jenny German.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 AM, Tuesday, August 27, 2002 at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. at Bonita Drive. Funeral Services will immediately follow at 11 AM with Rev. Stan Gockel officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery.
