Edward W. Reardon

Edward was born in Columbus, Ohio on March 5, 1928 to Walter and Elizabeth Reardon. He died very peacefully at his home in Middletown, Ohio in the arms of his family, on July 3, 2014.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brothers, G. Joseph Reardon and H. Richard Reardon, and a sister, Kay Bourne.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Norma J. (Borchers) Reardon who he married on September 8, 1954. Mourning his death are his sons Gary ( Pam) Reardon and David (Sara) Reardon of Middletown, and Michael (Lynn) Reardon of Middleburg Heights , and daughters Michele (Michael) Miller, Melinda (James) Chupka, and Jayne Reardon of Middletown, and Milissa (Chris) Smith of Oakwood . Cherishing his memory are 15 grandchildren: Stephanie(Vince), Corrie(Jon), Lindsey, Lucas (Jill), Abbie (Matt), Adam, Jessica, Logan, Maxwell, Samuel, Andrew, Spencer, Keara, Emma, and Matthew. He also leaves behind 4 great-grandchildren: Dylan, Jackson, Henry and Dane. Ed was one of 10 children, and will be greatly missed by his brother William (Jane) Reardon and his sisters Margaret "Boots" (Don) Hughes , Betty (Ralph) Haines, Jo Ann McKenna and Nancy Shipley of Piqua, and Mary Kenney of Kettering , sister-in-laws Betty Reardon of Troy and Mary Ann Reardon of Piqua and brother-in-law Vernon Bourne of Piqua and Joe Shipley. Ed also had over one hundred nieces and nephews.

Ed graduated from Piqua Catholic High School in 1946 where he was Class President, basketball MVP and a baseball standout . He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in May, 1946 and served until March, 1948. While in the Navy, Ed was a cook, electrician, photographer and movie star, playing an Eskimo in a movie with Admiral Richard Byrd. After leaving the service, he attended The University of Dayton. Ed worked at Armco Steel in the Tubing Department from 1949 to 1990, retiring after 40 years of service. He never missed a day of work, and was only late on one occasion. This, he said, was because a train blocked his route. After he retired from Armco, he worked as a courier for 14 years for First Financial Bank in Hamilton. He retired for a second time in January 2008.

Ed began donating blood at the age of 16 and donated 260 pints of blood during his lifetime, saving countless lives. He enjoyed working in his large vegetable garden, as well as with flowers. Ed was very proud of his Irish heritage and will always be remembered for loving anything Irish.

Ed was a member of Holy Family Parish in Middletown, The Knights of Columbus, VFW, and The American Legion.

Funeral Mass will be Tuesday July 8th at 10:00AM at Holy Family Parish-Holy Trinity Church 201 Clark St. Middletown, Ohio 45042. Visitation will be Monday July 7th from 5-8PM at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. Middletown, Ohio 45044. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery with military honors by the Middletown Combined Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions can be made to The Saint Vincent De Paul Society or Saint John XXIII Elementary School.
