Elizabeth Rose "Betsy" (Pathe) Ryan, 85, died Monday, October 24, 2016 at St. Leonard Retirement Community, previously living in Middletown for 51 years. She was born in Lorain, Ohio on August 29, 1931 to parents Anton and Veronika (Torma) Pathe.
Betsy was active in St. Mary and Holy Family, Middletown as a certified catechist for 35 years, Tri-Parish Youth Director, John XXIII Pack 85 den mother, John XXIII Troop 1363 Brownie leader, choir member and worked on various Lay committees especially liturgical. At St. Leonard she volunteered as lector, Eucharist minister, hospitality hostess and Kreative Korner crafter. Through the years Betsy served as President of the Hamilton Deanery, Vice-President of the Archdiocesan Council of the Laity, President of Holy Family Ladies Society (WINGS), member of the National Council of Catholic Women and member of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Council. Other memberships included Butler County Bar Auxiliary, American Association of University Women, St. Mary Ladies Society of Franklin and Middletown, the Catholic Ladies of Columbia, the Ladies of Charity Dallas, the Society of St. Vincent dePaul and charter member of the Middletown Philatelist Society. She received her B.S. from Miami University Oxford, Masters of Education from Xavier University and Associate nursing degree from Miami University Middletown. Her work experience was at Warren County Community Center as a visiting nurse; teacher in the Franklin school system and Fenwick High School; and as Religious Education Coordinator at St. Mary, Franklin.
Mrs. Ryan is survived by her children, Christopher Ryan, John (Dana) Ryan, Lisa (Joe Miller) Ryan, Paula (Darryl) Nevitt & Regina (Harold Grimes) Ryan; grandchildren, Jessica (Christopher) Nickoson, Kelly Ann (Covington) Melton & Erin (Anthony Youssef) Nevitt; great grandchildren, Sophia, Aven & Lillian Nickoson, Isabella Melton, Adaline & Abagail Nevitt; and several nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Ryan; son, Timothy Ryan; parents; six sisters and one brother, Antone.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, October 28, 2016 at 12:30 pm at Holy Family Parish - Holy Trinity Church, 201 Clark Street, Middletown with Father John Civille as celebrant. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent dePaul Society, c/o Holy Family Parish, 201 Clark Street, Middletown, OH 45042 -OR-the charity of donor's choice.
