Esther B. Downey

Esther B. Downey, 96, of Middletown, died on Tuesday, March 28, 2006, at her residence. She was born in McCartyville, Ohio on August 29, 1909 to Louis and Mary (Vonderheide) Schroeder.

Mrs. Downey sewed all her life. She started sewing for others in the late 1940s and retired after 50 years of sewing in 1998 as the owner of Esther Downey Interiors. Mrs. Downey was a member of Holy Family Parish and a charter member of the former St. Mary´s Church.

Esther is survived by, two daughters: Mary Ann Downey and Ruth Downey of Middletown; one son: Jack (Phyllis) Downey of Middletown; one brother: Robert (Dorothy) Schroeder of Dayton, OH; five grandsons, Bob, Tom (Jen), John (Kim), Joe and Jim and 8 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, John Thomas Downey (1959), brother, Louis Schroeder and sister Ruth Farno.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, April 1, 2006 at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Parish - Holy Trinity Church with Father John Civille as celebrant. Visitation will be Saturday, April 1, 2006 from 9:30 - 10:30 AM at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. at Bonita Dr. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
