Eugene Richard Benninghoff, 73, of Monroe, died Wednesday, February 9, 2005, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born in Fostoria, Ohio on September 7, 1931 to parents Ernest Leroy Benninghoff and Mabel Hattie (Dillon) Benninghoff.
Eugene was a graduate of Fostoria High School and received his bachelor of science degree from Bowling Green State University, where he played trumpet in the marching band. In high school, he played in the three time National Champion VFW Band, playing for Truman, Eisenhower, and McArthur. Over the years, he worked for Hindedauche Paper Company, Olin Kraft, Pre-Lith Packaging, Akers Packaging, Menasha Paper, Corroc, and Burroughs Paper. He was active in the Lions Club, Monroe Historical Society, Monroe CityFest, Kiwanas, and Jaycees.
Mr. Benninghoff is survived by his wife, Wanda Lou (Souder) Benninghoff; three daughters, Sandy (Ed) Sweeney, Gayle (Jim) Ertel, and Lynnette (Ray) Warrick; one son, Rick (Debbie) Benninghoff; six grandchildren, David Benninghoff, Heidi, Abbey, & Ben Ertel, and Brennan & Patrick Sweeney; and two step grandchildren, Mandy & Michael Shinholser.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Benninghoff and Mabel Smith.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday, February 12, 2005 at 1:00 PM at Monroe United Methodist Church, 206 East Ave., Monroe, with Reverend Bradford G. Olson officiating. Visitation will be Friday, February 11, 2005 from 6-8 PM at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. at Bonita Dr., Middletown. Interment will be at Mound Cemetery in Monroe.
