Eugenia Harding McLaughlin Wilson, 96, was born on November 10, 1911, and passed away peacefully on May 13, 2008, in Grand Rapids, Michigan where she had lived near family for the past five years.
Eugenia was the daughter of John Eugene Harding and Edna Wilson. Her family was one of the early families settling in Excello/Middletown since 1865. Her grandfather, A.E. Harding and associates, founded the Harding, Erwin, & Co. It produced its first paper Nov 18, 1865. The mill later became the Harding-Jones Paper Company, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. Eugenia's namesake, her father, John Eugene Harding, was a member of the Ohio State senate in 1902, elected as a Republican to the Sixtieth Congress (March 4, 1907 - March 3, 1909) and a delegate to the Republican State convention in 1910. Her maternal grandfather was Capt. Robert Wilson, who started the Wilson-McCalley tobacco with his brother-in-law, Daniel McCallay. Eugenia Harding married Forrest McLaughlin but was widowed early in life. She continued her career at Armco Steel Corporation, where she retired after more than 30 years. She later remarried to Robert F. Wilson, moving to Washington D.C. Upon her husband's death, she returned to the place she considered home, Middletown, Ohio.
Mrs. Wilson is survived by her grand nephew, Todd Arnold; grand nieces, Teresa Mead and Debra Couture; two great grand nieces; and two great grand nephews.
There will be a visitation Saturday, May 17, 2008 from 11:00 - 11:30 AM at WILSON-SCHRAMM-SPAULDING FUNERAL HOME, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. (at Bonita Dr.), Middletown, OH, followed by a short ceremony at 11:30 AM. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
