Frances Cogan, 98, of Middletown, died Tuesday, August 23, 2011, at Close To Home Assisted Living. She was born in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky on March 16, 1913 to parents Nicholas and Leah (Fox) Stamper.
Frances attended the University of Cincinnati and worked as an LPN for area doctors, Dr. Rush, Dr. Rothmell, Dr. Richmond & Dr. Armathorp and during World War II she worked at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church where she was a youth leader and then Middletown Church of the Brethren where she was the church finance secretary for many years, taught Sunday School and was youth leader. She was a charter member of Forest Hills Country Club, was a member of Ida Morningstar Chapter O.E.S., the Order of Amaranth, Smiling Grandmothers, Homemakers Circle #8, Church Women United, Middletown Women's Center and AARP #1704. She was an American Red Cross volunteer and was a hospice volunteer for 10 years.
Mrs. Cogan is survived by her daughter, Leah M. Viel; sister, Yvonne Gibbs; grandson , Doug (Lisa) Viel and their children Courtney (Emily) Parks, Tyler Viel & Kayla Viel; grandson, Russ (Lisa) Viel and their childen, Lauren Viel & Lindsey Viel; granddaughter, Amber (Jim) Daley; son-in-law Walt Bowen & his children, Shiela, Mary Ella, Jeannie & Angela; special friend, Richard Rothfuss; sisters-in-law, Jacqueline Stamper & Janet Eggleton; & many nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward L. Cogan; daughter, Angela L. Bowen; parents; and nine brothers & sisters.
Funeral Service will be held Friday, August 26, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Breiel Blvd. First Church of God, 2000 N. Breiel Blvd., Middletown with Reverend Dr. Eric Newell officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown. Interment will be at Butler County Memorial Park.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of donor's choice.
