Steve Cox passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct. 30th, 2023 at Atrium Medical Center. He was born Francis Steven Cox on May 18th, 1947 to Clarence and Alice Cox (nee Dickerson).
Steve graduated from Middletown High School in 1965 and attended Miami University where he received an Associate Degree in Natural Sciences. He then attended The University of Cincinnati receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied and Natural Science, Chemistry concentration. Steve’s career started at Armco Steel where he worked from 1968 to 1996 attaining the title of Refractory Process Engineer. He later worked as Technical Manager for RHI Refractories AG and as ISO/Environmental Manager at Sawbrook Steel Castings.
His love of music, especially live music, was one thing that made Steve special, even attending the Robert Plant & Alison Krauss show at The Rose Music Center in April 2023, even though he had to use a walker. He also was a musician, playing the trumpet in school, and could play a mean “Air” guitar. He was a sports fan, cheering for his alma maters UC and Miami, the Middies, Bengals, Reds, and Buckeyes.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, brother Clarence R. Cox “Ron”, and Sister-In-Law Shirley Craft Cox. He is survived by nieces Donna Gomia (Mike), Charma Rader (Danny), and nephew, Jay Cox (Kelly), and many great nieces and nephews. Steve also leaves behind many friends (too many to list) who will miss him dearly.
A Gathering of Family & Friends will be Wednesday, November 22, 2023 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd (at Bonita Dr.), Middletown, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m.
