Francis O. Burk

Francis O. Burk, 94, of Middletown, Ohio, died on Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at Garden Manor Retirement Village. He was born in Middletown on November 1, 1908 to parents Frank E. and Catherine (Buerkle) Burk.

Francis was a graduate of Miami University and member of the Sigma Delta Roe Fraternity. He worked for Armco Steel Corp. and Granite City Steel as an industrial engineer.

He was an avid historian, and served as president of the Land O’Goshen Historical Society in Edwardsville, Illinois. After returning to Middletown in 1981, he joined the local historical society and served as president in 1982 and later named historian of the year. He was a former PTA president in Monroe, member of the Odd Fellows, the Sons of Italy, and a Freemason in New Hampshire.

Francis is survived by one daughter, Kendrea Burk Justice of Middletown; a granddaughter, Dr. Deanna Reynolds of Corpus Christi, Texas; a grandson, Bradley Justice of Gardner, Massachusetts ; 3 great grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Mildred Burk and Roberta Burk both of Middletown.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Ruth Burk in 1991; a son David Burk in 1979; his parents; two brothers, Charles Burk and Fred Burk; and two sisters, Catherine Burk and Louise B. da Cruz.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, June 21, 2003 at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Parish - St. John's Church with Monsignor Paul Metzger as celebrant. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:30 – 10:30 am at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. at Bonita Dr. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
