Frederick Emory Fahrenholz, age 87, of The Villages, Fl, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2006 at The Villages Regional Hospital. He was born in Middletown on April 9th, 1918 a son to George and Mary (Ulrich) Fahrenholz. Fahrenholz was raised in Middletown and graduated from Middletown High School in 1936. In October 1940, he married the love of his life, Ellen. He graduated from Perdue University in 1942 with a degree in forestry and wildlife management. He was drafted that same year and spent three years in the Air Force as a hydraulic and electronic specialist at La Guardia. After returning to Middletown, Fahrenholz sold real estate for Terhune and Sawyer and insurance at Western Southern. He also worked as a surveyor at McGraw Construction. For 30 years, he was in the service station business, leasing gas stations from Marathon, Mobile, Shell and Texaco. It was then that he earned the nicknames “Mr. Mechanic” and “Doc” Fahrenholz, how he will remain known to many Middletown residents. Fahrenholz also owned a fleet of Corvairs that he sold to high school students, instructed a mechanic’s class for women and repaired the neighborhood kids’ bikes.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Dolph and her husband Richard of Victor NY, and his grandchildren Todd Weatherby and his wife Lynda of Seattle WA, Timothy Weatherby and his wife Mary of Marietta GA, Emily Ingham and her husband Matthew of Charlotte NC, and Lacey Pietropaolo of Victor NY. He is also survived by his sister, Laura Hals and her husband Ron, and his four great grandchildren Kyle Weatherby, Dana Weatherby, Lynne-Marie Weatherby and Maxwell Weatherby and his long time friend and inseparable companion, Lucky Dog. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Fahrenholz, his daughter Sherry Kunkel, and his parents.
