Gastone T. Zacche, 78, of Middletown, died Monday, July 11, 2005, at Garden Manor Retirement Village. He was born in Torino, Italy on March 29, 1927.
Mr. Zacche graduated from Italian schools, receiving a degree from Torino Technological Engineering Institute. Following graduation, Mr. Zacche was employed by the Fiat Corporation in Italy. He then came to the United States, where he furthered his education at Hamlin University in Minnesota, Washington D.C., and the University of Cincinnati. Mr. Zacche came to Middletown to study labor and management in the steel industry in the U.S. At this time, he met his future wife, Merle V. Ward, whom he married in Torino, Italy in 1955. The would have celebrated their 50th anniversary July 27, 2005. Following their marriage, Mr. Zacche was employed by Diamond International Corp., now Smurfit-Stone Corp. Upon his retirement, Mr. Zacche was general manager of machinery systems. During their 50 years of marriage, Mr. & Mrs. Zacche have been blessed by God with love, friendship, and family.
Mr. Zacche owned and operated his own picture framing business, was a volunteer at Wilson Elementary School, was a supporter of the Middletown Knothole Association, a member of the Middletown Historical Society, and St. Paul’s Evangelical Church.
In addition to his wife Merle (Ward) Zacche, Mr. Zacche is survived by nieces, Linda D. Barton, Martha F. Morgan, and Debbi A. (Gary) Mansell; nephew, Joe (Beth) Ditmyer; great nieces and nephews, Jeffery Morgan, Melissa Cotter, Gretchen Pierce, Andy Ditmyer, Sarah Kitchen & Clinton Mansell; seven great-great nieces and nephews; and special friends Gary Rowland, Wayne Pence, and Mr. & Mrs. Joe Newton.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday, July 16, 2005 at 10:00 AM at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. (at Bonita Dr.) with Reverend Lisa Ellison officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
