Gene Barker, 78, of Monroe, died Monday, January 26, 2004, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born in Middletown, Ohio on January 9, 1926 to parents Clyde and Irene (Beagle) Barker.
Mr. Barker worked for General Motors-Fisher Body Hamilton as a repairman for 35 years, retiring in 1988. He had a special love for horses and enjoyed riding in parades. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and the Tennessee Walker Association.
Gene is survived by his wife Mary M. (Powers) Barker of Monroe; one daughter, Paula (Kenny) Johnson of Monroe; a grandson, Ryan (Peggy) Johnson of Monroe; great grandchildren, Nathan & Andrew Johnson; three sisters, Dorothy (Vernon) Francis, and Chris Centers, both of Middletown, and Betty (Nelson) Borchers of Tipp City; and two brothers, Ralph (Bobbie) Barker, and Larry Barker both of Middletown.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Everett Barker, Donald Barker, Wayne Barker, and Harold Barker.
Funeral Service will be held Friday, January 30, 2004 at 11:00 AM at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. at Bonita Dr., with Reverend Ed Cloninger officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
