George E. Koeppel, Sr., 97, of Middletown, died Thursday, January 29, 2004, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born in Middletown, on May 17, 1906 to Frank V. and Blanche (Herman) Koeppel.
Mr. Koeppel was a life member of Holy Family Parish-St. John´s Church. He was also a life member and former director of the Middletown Sportsman´s Club, life member and past president of the Middletown Bowlers Association, and life member of the Middletown High School Band Association, of which he was president for 7 years. He worked for Armco Steel Corp, beginning as a general office messenger in July 1923, and retiring as a mill representative in 1970, after 47 years of service. He was active in the early development of aluminized steel products at both the Middletown and Butler, PA plants.
George is survived by, four daughters, Sue Jean (Joseph) Weist of Franklin, Rebecca (Jerry) Hall of Middletown, Sandra (James) Nickell of Franklin, and Joyce (Richard) Johnson of Middletown; three step daughters, Cecilia (John) Rossi of Middletown, Nathalie (Joseph) Andreotta of West Chester, and Deborah Gonzalez of Mason; a step son, Alfonso Gonzalez of Sierra Vista, AZ; two sisters, Elnor Rita Fawns and Joan (Bernard) Skinner both of Middletown; a sister-in-law, Betty Koeppel of Middletown; 35 grandchildren; 73 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Vivian E. Koeppel in 1958; second wife, Velma D. Koeppel in 1995; a son, George E. Koeppel, Jr. in 2000; a daughter, Doris E. Koeppel; his parents, Frank & Blanche Koeppel; two sisters, Roberta Burk and Adelaide Gray; and four brothers, Frank, William, Oscar, & John Richard Koeppel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, February 2, 2004 at 10:00 AM at Holy Family Parish - St. John's Church with Father John Civille as celebrant. Visitation will be Sunday, from 2-5 pm at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., at Bonita Dr. Entombment will be at Woodside Mausoleum.
