George J. Cavalaris, 88, of Middletown, formerly of Hamilton, OH and Miami, FL, died Monday, April 27, 2015, at his residence. He was born in Frangista, Greece on November 23, 1926 to parents John C. and Alice (Psychas) Cavalaris.
George was the owner/operator of Columbia Lanes in Hamilton, having built it in 1961 and retired in 2008. He also owned Eastern Lanes in Middletown from 1974 - 1999. He was formerly the owner of the Eatmore restaurant in Hamilton as well. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post 218 and VFW Post 3809 in Middletown. George was a member of Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church where he had formerly served on the Church Council Board. He was also a member of Ahepa where he was past district governor-Ohio and past supreme governor. While living in Miami he was a member of St. Sophia Church and served on their Church Council Board. George was a life member of Middletown Elks #257, member of Washington Lodge #0017 F & A.M, Hamilton and was a Kentucky Colonel.
Mr. Cavalaris is survived by his wife, Irene (Pantel) Cavalaris; son, John G. Cavalaris & his 3 children, George, Jordan & Krystallia; daughter, Alice Krista Cavalaris & her 5 children, Michael, Marisa, Elizabeth, Kyle & Sean Larkin; brother, Dr. C.J. (Lynda) Cavalaris; brothers-in-law, Nicholas Pantel & A. Gus (Beatriz) Pantel; as well as many special cousins, nieces, nephews & 3 goddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Margaret C. Chimples.
Funeral Service will be held Friday, May 1, 2015 at 10:00 am at Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 2500 Grand Ave., Middletown with Father Bill Cassis officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown with Trisagion Service at 7:00 pm. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Hamilton DAV Chapter #15.
