Goldie Opal Gray

October 21, 1905 — March 9, 2007

Goldie Opal Gray, 101, passed away at Otterbein-Lebanon on Friday, March 9, 2007. She was born October 21, 1905 in Greensburg Indiana to Robert and Orpha May (Anderson) Altizer.

She moved to Middletown with her husband Robert Gray and their two sons in 1941 during WWII and lived here for 52 years. In 1993 she moved to Otterbein-Lebanon Retirement Community.

She was a long time member of the Faith United Methodist Church where she taught “The Willing Workers Sunday School Class”. She played the piano for Sunday services, served on the board of trustees of the church, and was a faithful member of the women’s missionary society.

Among her many interests was her love of quilting. She hosted a quilting club every Thursday at her home on Nelbar St. for nearly 40 years.

She was a very positive and cheerful influence on all of her family and those who knew her, that’s why she lived to be 101 years old.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert Gray Sr. her sons Robert Gray Jr. (March 1, 2007), and Charles Wm. “Bill” Gray (December 9, 1992)

She is survived by four grandchildren, Gary Gray of Middletown, Kenneth Gray of Fullerton, CA, Robyn Knight of Atlanta, GA, Stephanie Knight of Atlanta, GA, two daughters-in law Joan Gray, Middletown and Nelda Gray, St. Louis, MO, two step grandchildren Matt Rutledge of Dallas TX, and Dave Rutledge of St. Louis, and six great-grandchildren.
