Grace M. Cox, 93, of Middletown, died Sunday, May 28, 2006, at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born in Foster, Missouri on June 27, 1912 to parents Thomas and Leona (Drysdale) Hines.
Mrs. Cox was the last member of nine children. After high school, she received a teacher’s certificate and taught school. She married Esta L. Cox in May of 1934. She also worked at the Central Store in the early fifties. Mrs. Cox bowled at Eastern Bowling Lanes, was a member in the Girl Scouts of America for over 55 years and was better known as “Coxie”. She was active with a Girl Scout group of Ladies Trefoil Troop 5. When her husband was living, they traveled in their trailer and in later years she enjoyed doing needle point.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Esta L. Cox in 1986, grandsons, Tom Cox in 1992 and Martin Kyle Jones in 2003 .
She is survived by one son: William “Bill” (Barbara) Cox of Middletown; two daughters: Norma (Kenneth L.) Jones of Largo, FL and Peggy (Robert) Swartz of Trenton; nine grandchildren, Terry (Adrienne) Cox of Mason, Tim (Deana) Cox of Middletown, Todd (Kelly) Cox of Middletown, Tricia (Estil) Johnson of Middletown, Melanie (Larry) Bray of IL, Eric Jones of N. Carolina, Vickie (Arnie) Eaton of Oxford, Robert (Carol) Swartz, Jr. of Cincinnati and Shane (Lynne) Swartz of Trenton; 21 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
Funeral Service will be held Friday, June 2, 2006 at 12:00 Noon at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. at Bonita Dr. with Pastor Jim Peterson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service from 11-12:00 Noon. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
