Harley L. Gomia, 85, of Middletown, passed away Monday, December 13, 2010, at Atrium Medical Center. He was born in Middletown on June 15, 1925 to parents Harley Hoy and Minnie (Judd) Gomia.
Harley served his country in the United States Navy in the Pacific during World War II. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 218, where he served as Post Commander in 1981, the D.A.V. #131 and the V.F.W. #3809. Harley retired in 1978 as a Lieutenant of the Middletown Fire Department, after 26 years of service.
Mr. Gomia is survived by his wife, Donna J. (Wardlow) Gomia; brother, James R. Gomia; niece, Judi Fox; four step daughters, Vicky Jamison, Lisa Foley, Bette Whittlesey and Patricia Smith; ten grandchildren, Anthony Roberts, Jill Roberts, Ashley Purvis, Adam Duane, Diane Duane, Danielle Duane, John Whittlesey, Stephanie Mackey, Brian Smith and Brad Smith; nine great grandchildren; and one of his best friends, Maggie, his 5 year old miniature poodle.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dora Fabing; and stepdaughter, Susan Duane.
Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at 1:00 pm at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown with Father John Civille officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 11:00 - 1:00 pm. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Middletown Combined Honor Guard.
