Harold Tarter, Big T, our dad, daddy, & papa has just made his last round. He left us to join his wife Minnie, mother and father Estil & Alonzo, and son Jerry Tarter.
Harold was born in Naomi, Kentucky. He made his way to Ohio gaining a job with General Motors and later the Pollock/St. Regis Paper Company. He retired after 30+ years of service as a maintenance mechanic, with impeccable attendance.
He was a 32nd degree member of Lincoln Lodge #693 F & AM, and belonged to the Scottish Rite, Antioch Shrine, American Legion Post 218, Loyal Order of Moose #501, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, a Kentucky Colonel, and served in the Korean War as a Sergeant First Class. He was at one time a master plumber in Butler County, a skilled carpenter, electrician, welder, and was very mechanically minded, with a motto do it right the first time.
Harold loved his family, gardening, fishing, and enjoyed a good meal. If he liked you, you knew it and if he didn’t, you knew that as well. He was a man from a different era. His life’s path was walked with an uncommon courage, knowing and doing exactly what he wanted.
He leaves broken hearted, a son Gary L. Tarter of Thailand; two daughters and their husbands, Kathie E. and Bruce Holt of Oregon and Brenda and Reid Heidtman of Middletown; 7 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren. He has one sister, Dorothy Smith of Nancy, Kentucky; lifelong friend, Bill Perry and fishing buddy, Ernie Bratcher.
We have loved him in more ways than words can describe. He would say It’s just one of those things.
