Helen R. Casper, better known as Dolly, 92, formerly of Middletown, died January 2, 2007, at the Seasons Retirement Home in Montgomery, where she had resided for 10 years. She was born in Cincinnati, on May 15, 1914 to the late David and Anna (Frieman) Litwin. Dolly was the youngest of seven children, and the last survivor. Her sisters were Rose Tolpen, Ida Baum, Lil Crigger, and Sara Frieman. Her brothers were Irv and Ben Frieman.
Dolly married Isidor Casper in 1938 with whom she had two sons, Arthur (Brandy) Casper of Cincinnati and S. Robert “Bob” Casper of Sarasota FL. Both sons became attorneys and joined their father´s practice. Dolly loved her family, her faith, and her fellow man. She was a 1937 graduate of University of Cincinnati, School of Journalism. Dolly was described by former Miami University President, Phillip Shriver, as a wonderful friend and a loyal and generous supporter of the university. ”Martha and I enjoyed the many dinners and receptions which she and her late husband, Isidor, hosted. She was always the ultimate, gracious hostess.” Mike Governanti, retired Executive Director of Miami University Middletown stated “Dolly Casper was one of the most gracious, caring, and generous individuals I’ve had the pleasure to know. As Executive Director of the Campus, it was a significant honor for me to have known and worked with Dolly over the years. I will cherish her memory and her dedication to the service of others for all the years to come.”
Dolly´s civic activities have included roles as, recipient of Miami University Middletown Citizens Recognition Award, April 1986, member of Miami´s President´s Club, Founders´ Club Charter Member, past president of Middletown Chapter of Hadassa, past president of Butler County Bar Association Auxiliary, First VP of Middletown Area Federation of Women´s Clubs, past president of the Women´s Club, past president of the Federation of Women´s Club, president of the Guilded Study Club, file chair of the Middletown Hospital Charity Ball, longtime volunteer for Middletown Hospital Association, longtime Auxiliary Board Member, and a longtime Doty House volunteer. For a number of years, she and her late husband, Isidor, would arrange buses and take these special physically challenged children to hear the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Dolly was very active in the Alex and Lena Casper lecture series of Miami University of Middletown.
Funeral Service will be held Sunday, January 7, 2007 at 1:00 PM at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. (at Bonita Dr.), Middletown, with Rabbi Kari Hofmaister officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 12:00 Noon - 1:00 pm. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to I.A. Casper Scholarship Fund, Office of Development, Miami University, 4200 E. University Blvd., Middletown, OH 45042-3497.
