Herman 'Rod' Adkins

Herman “Rod” Adkins, 75, of Middletown, died Thursday, December 1, 2005, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born in Middletown, on December 6, 1929 to parents Arlie and Rebecca (Madden) Adkins.

Mr. Adkins worked as a pipe fitter and was a step-up foreman at Armco Steel Corporation, retiring in 1985 after 36 years. He served his country in the United States Army, post World War II, as a member of the Honor Guard in Germany. He was a member of Breiel Blvd. First Church of God, Jefferson Masonic Lodge #90, American Legion Post 218 and VFW Post 3809. Rod was an avid golfer and a knothole coach. He played softball with the Armco Triangles and was a member of the Butler County Softball Hall of Fame.

Mr. Adkins is survived by his wife, Nelda I. (Whisman) Adkins of Middletown; two sons, Tim (Irina) Adkins of Westerville and Mark (Teddra) Adkins of Middletown; two sisters, Marguerite Begley of Miamisburg and Florella Randall of Middletown; five grandchildren, Emily Adkins, Katie Adkins, Markay Adkins, Bryce Adkins, and Anastasia Patoka; and numerous nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Carl Adkins and Curtis Adkins; and a sister, Georgetta Mulberry.

Funeral Service will be held Monday, December 5, 2005 at 11:00 AM at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. (at Bonita Dr.) with Reverend David Colp officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, from 2-5 pm at the funeral home, with Masonic Services conducted by Jefferson Lodge #90 at 4:00 pm. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery with military honors presented by American Legion Post 218 Honor Guard.
