Hubert Thomas Derivan, known to many as “H.T.” or “Derry”, 77, died Friday, November 10, 2017, at home. He was a native of Middletown, Ohio and was born on March 14, 1940 to parents Dr. H.T. Derivan, D.D.S. and Cecilia (Pater) Derivan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and granddaughter, Lauren Fisher. He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda (Morris) Derivan; son, Michael (Jennifer) Derivan of Independence, Kentucky; daughters, Marianne (Charles) Lease of Dublin, Ohio and Laura K. (Matthew) Roberts of Middletown, Ohio; stepdaughter, Lynn (Robert) Rushing of Lexington, KY; grandchildren, Christina Fisher, Allison Roberts and Alexander Roberts; and step grandchildren, Michael Rushing and Annabelle Rushing.
H.T. became a licensed practioning attorney on October 27, 1967 and practiced law in Middletown for nearly fifty years. He was a graduate of Fenwick High School and was Class Salutatorian. He also received a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Political Science from the University of Dayton and received a Juris-Doctor degree from Ohio Northern University. He was recognized by the 114th General Assembly of the State of Ohio stating that they recognized him as "one of the finest citizens and attorneys in Ohio". He was also listed in Marquees's "Who's Who in American Law". He was the owner or part owner of H.T. Derivan & Associates, LLC, Multinational Business Expansions, Inc., Diversified Enterprises, Vanlin Investment, Inc. and Alcanzar Investments, Inc. He had been a member of the Middletown Business and Professional Association, the Middletown Noon Optimist Club, Business Networking International, a board member of the Middletown Safety Councel, President of the Fenwick Athletic Boosters Club, the Charity Ball Committee and the John XXIII Elementary School Board. He was a member of the John Paul II Counsel #1610 and the Monsignor McAry Assembly #2299. He was very active in Boy Scouts, was an Eagle Scout with a bronze palm, was the first eagle scout of troop 20 and was an assistant scoutmaster. He was an avid golfer and sports fan and played both golf and baseball at the collegiate level. He was a certified scuba diver and a certified dive instructor. He also loved water skiing. He was licensed to practice law before the U.S. Supreme Court, the Supreme Court of the State of Ohio, all Federal District Courts, all County Courts, and all Municipal Courts in Ohio. His professional memberships (current and past) included The American Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association, the Ohio Judicature Society, the Ohio Academy of Trial Lawyers, the American Trial Lawyers Association, the Butler County Bar Association, Cincinnati Bar Association, Middletown Bar Association (past president), the Family Law Committee of the Butler County Bar Association, the Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee of the Butler County Bar Association, the Bar Admissions Committee of the Butler County Bar Association and Law Day Chairman. He attended Holy Family Parish and was a Lector.
Visitation will be Thursday, November 16, 2017 from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. at Bonita Dr., Middletown. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 11:00 am at Holy Family Parish - Holy Trinity Church, 201 Clark Street, Middletown with Father John Civille as celebrant. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
