Irene M. Downing

Irene M. (nee Gaston) Downing, 89, of Franklin Township, died Sunday, September 21, 2014, at Atrium Medical Center. She was born in Middletown on January 25, 1925 to parents Louis and Mary (Jezik) Gaston.

Irene was a 1942 graduate of John XXIII High School and later graduated from Moller Beauty School. She worked for Ohio Bell for 12 years and retired from working in the cafeteria at Hunter Elementary School. She was a member of Holy Family Parish - St. John's Church.

Mrs. Downing is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Al) Bradshaw; sons, Larry (Deborah) Downing & Robert (Victoria) Downing; five grandchildren, Lauren (Jeremy) Presar, Jacob (Nicole) Downing, Jonathan Downing, Luke Bradshaw & Colt Bradshaw; and two great grandchildren, Bo & Brody Presar.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Robert Downing; son, Jeffery Downing; parents; brothers, Charles, Louis & Frank Gaston; and sisters, Mary Hoff, Josephine Kirkpatrick, Catherine Martin, Rosie Wills, Christina Ryan & Theresa Gaston.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at 11:00 am at Holy Family Parish - St. John's Church, 1405 First Avenue, Middletown with Father John Civille as celebrant. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9:30 - 10:30 AM at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
