Jack M. Reck, 75, of Middletown, died Tuesday, August 20, 2002 at Garden Manor Retirement Village. He was born April 14, 1927 in North Star, Oh. to the late Ellsworth and Elva (Murray) Reck.
Jack served in the Army during World War II as an MP for General Mark Clark and was an MP for the Nuremberg trials.
Jack graduated from Middletown High School and then went on to receive his Bachelors degree from Purdue University and then his Masters in Education from Xavier University. He spent his teaching career with the Middletown School System, for over 30 years as a gifted teacher, coach, Vice Principal, and athletic director.
Jack was an athlete and coach at Middletown High School where he played football and baseball. He played for the 1944 undefeated team where he earned an honorable mention on the all-state team as a tightend. In 1945 as a senior, he led the baseball team in hitting with an average of .357. After starting his coaching career in 1956 as an assistant in football and track, he became the head track coach in 1963. His teams were District champions in 1964, '65,'66, and '67 and were District runners-up in 1963 and 1969. He was named the athletic director of the Freshman High School in 1969. Jack is a member of both the Middletown High School Hall of Fame and the Butler County Sports Hall of Fame.
He was a lifelong lover of Barbershop music and sang bass with the Elktones for over 40 years. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge 257 and St. Luke's Presbyterian Church here in Middletown.
Jack is survived by his wife of 50 years, Wanda Faye (Tolson) Reck; two sons, James Reck of West Carrollton, Oh. and Neil (Debra) Reck of Cinn., Oh.; two daughters, Becky (Shane) Hoskins and Gail Reck both of Middletown; and eight grandchildren, Kerry and Stephen Kicos, Hannah, Nichole, and Ruth Reck, Amy Worrell, and Shelby and Sidney Hoskins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Richard C. Reck.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 23, 2002 at 10 a.m. at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. at Bonita, with Pastor Bill Arthur Officiating. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, August 22, 2002 from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
