Jacob “Jake” Rukavina, 86, of Middletown, died Sunday, January 2, 2005, at Lebanon Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Middletown, on June 3, 1918 to parents George and Rose (Tindell) Rukavina.
Jake was a member of St. John´s Church and attended St. John´s School. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Pacific Theater, Philippines, Sarpan, Okinawa ending his service in 1945, receiving a bronze star. He managed the Meadows Restaurant for 33 years and Alex´s Continental Inn for 22 years. Jake was a member of the Fraternal Order of Orioles, Fraternal Order of Eagles, American Legion Post 218, and VFW Post 3809. He enjoyed baseball and horse racing.
Mr. Rukavina is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Libby” (Wagner) Rukavina; three sisters, Margaret Rukavina, Theresa Rukavina, and Barbara Garber; and many nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, John, Mathew, Michael, & Joseph Rukavina; and two sisters, Mary Ann Johnson & Ruth Knox.
Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at 2:00 PM at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. at Bonita Dr., with Monsignor Paul Metzger officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, prior to the service, from 1-2 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be at North Monroe Cemetery.
