James D. Ryan, 78, of Middletown, died Thursday, October 20, 2005, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born in Oak Hill, West Virginia on July 24, 1927 to Raymond and Cora (Dapore) Ryan.
Mr. Ryan graduated Suma Cum Laude from Miami University with both his bachelor´s and master´s degrees. He was first in his class for 4 years, and was Phi Beta Kappa. He went on to complete 2 years at Chase Law School and was a lawyer and Certified Public Accountant. He worked as a tax attorney for Armco Steel Corporation for 38 years, retiring in 1990. He served his country in the United States Army 1946-1948. Jim was a 4th degree Knight of the K. of C. #1610 and was part of the Kairos prison ministry team, sponsored by Our Lady of Sorrows, as well as member of the Area Advisory Board for Kairos. He was past president of the Hamilton Deanery and past member of the archdiocesan council.
Mr. Ryan is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Betsy” (Pathe) Ryan; two sons, Christopher Ryan of Columbus and John (Dana) Ryan of Huber Heights; three daughters, Lisa (Frank) Pallotta of Syracuse, NY, Paula (Darrell) Nevitt of Jacksonville, FL, and Regina Ryan of Middletown; and three granddaughters, Jessica Ryan, Kelly Ann Nevitt, and Erin Rose Nevitt.
He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Ryan in 2000; his parents; brothers, Joe & Paul Ryan; and sister, Rose Foye.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, October 22, 2005 at 10:00 AM at Holy Family Parish - Holy Trinity Church with Father John Civille as celebrant. Visitation will be Friday, from 5-8 PM at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. (at Bonita Dr.), with Fourth Degree K of C services at 7:00 pm. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
