James "Jip" R. Hoerst, age 43, of Middletown, died Sunday, May 4 at his residence following a courageous battle with brain cancer. He grew up in Trenton and was active in the local 4-H club and Trenton Knothole. He graduated from Edgewood High School in 1982 where he was a 4 year member of the Marching Band. He attended Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico and graduated from Miami University in 2002. His passion was fishing and boating, which he enjoyed at several local lakes, and especially while vacationing annually at Marble Lake, Quincy, Michigan. He was an avid fan of Miami Redhawks Hockey and Ohio State Buckeyes Football. He was fascinated with the gentle beauty of Hot Air Balloons and loved to attend local events as well as the International Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The highlight being balloon rides in both Ohio and New Mexico. He had been employed by Akers Packaging Service, Inc. from 1988 to 2007 and would like to thank the Akers family and all his co-workers for all their support during his illness. He was preceded in death by two men for whom he had great respect in their roles as quietly inspirational family men, his Uncle Sonny Clemons, and Grandfather-in-law Emerson Wendt. He is survived by his best friend and wife of 13 years, Eloni Hoerst; daughter Abbi Hoerst; son Brian Hoerst; parents Frank and Charlotte Hoerst; sisters Kathleen Bass (Ben), DiAnne Francis (Jay); brothers Tom Hoerst (Brenda), Joe Hoerst (Marla), David Hoerst (Denise); mother-in-law Barb Nein (Rick); father-in-law Randy Walton; brother-in-law Chad Walton (Keely); as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many other relatives and friends.
